GOOOD MOORning romancers, writers, smut peddlers and gutter snipes! It’s a glorious morning in sunny Florida, well...except the sun isn't up yet. I've been having a great time here, even though I've been busier than a one-armed paper hanger in a butt kicking contest.
As I mentioned before, I've been here helping a good friend of mine cope with a rather serious shoulder surgery. When one lives on a ranch with eighteen horses, fifteen dogs (seven of which are only nine weeks old), and six cats, is it any wonder the poor woman needs a helping hand? So yes, I've been busy, but happy.
So happy that I have decided that I am going to move to Florida! Since being here I have fallen in love with this little spot on the map. The tropical flora and fauna, the friendly faces and most importantly, the peace and quiet, something that I never get in Atlanta. I've decided I want that, badly. Okay, the hot redneck men running around with next to nothing on. Riding on horses bareback along the side of the road doesn't hurt either.
Today I am posting another freebie story. I know, I know, I’m overdue for one, but I finally got it. However, there is a reason.
Not too long ago I submitted a novel to a publisher that I really, really wanted to work with. This was a novel that I worked on and worked on. It was a labor of love. It was shot down and none too nicely I might add. Yeah, it hurt. Fuck, it hurt a lot. After that…well let’s just say the voices in my head went away. Silence. Nothing. Nada.
I tried several times with no results. I decided not to push it and see what happened. Some of you may remember that I did a post of Facebook saying that I wasn't going to write anymore because it wasn’t worth the time I put into it. That was because nothing was coming; just dead silence.
So I decided to push it and see what happens. Trust me, it wasn't good. Real crap, if I were to be completely honest. I let it rest feeling totally frustrated. Then yesterday…I was trying to push through and do a short for F. Leonora Soloman, who had requested a short for her upcoming anthology. It was a struggle. I used to be able to whip out five-thousand words without a problem. Bam, a one day deal and done. I tried everything. It was utterly useless. What I had written was so bad that it was painful to re-read.
Determined, I put on some music. Hit YouTube for inspiration. Since I was doing something different, a horse type story I put on some K.D. Lang. Then there it was… a song that she did in conjunction with Jane Siberry, Calling All Angels. I had completely forgotten about that tune. I remember loving it all those years ago. Guess what? I heard a voice. It was faint at first. I listened again to the song and the voice came through loud and clear.
The story flowed easily. In under an hour I had it. I waited to re-read it just to make sure it wasn't total shit. Then I read it again. You be the judge. I have posted it here as a free read and a thank you to everyone who has pushed and supported me through this difficult time in my writing. While reading this short story I suggest that you follow the link and listen to this wonderful piece of music as you read it to get the full impact. I only ask that you let me know how you liked it. Either here or on Facebook or Goodreads or where ever.

A quick side note here. If you have not picked up a copy of Hawk ‘n’ Harley please do so. It is going to fund my move to Florida. Yeah, I’m not above begging.
